Idaho Pasture Pigs
We were thrilled when we discovered the Idaho Pasture Pig.
Raising pigs in small pens isn’t what we want. We want happy, stress-free animals that can roam, graze, and enjoy life during the 10 months to a year they’re with us.
The Idaho Pasture Pig is a relatively new breed developed by Gary and Shelly Farris in 2006. Their mission was to create a gentle, easy-going pig that does exceptionally well on pasture while still delivering outstanding meat quality. To achieve this, they combined the best traits of Duroc, Old Berkshire, and Kunekune pigs: the Duroc’s hardiness and great mothering abilities, the Berkshire’s famous gourmet flavor, and the Kunekune’s friendly nature, natural grazing habits, and short snout that helps limit rooting.
Pasture-raised pork is often prized for being rich, sweet, dark, and beautifully marbled. Their natural growth on pasture with a forage-based diet and plenty of exercise yields meat with an ideal fat-to-meat ratio and improved levels of beneficial nutrients.
